The Science of Lance Armstrong: Born, and Built, to Win

We were talking about just this the last couple of days and now, of course, there's an article - National Geographic.

Mike and I were talking about this the other day; the idea of people being ideally suited for a sport (or other activity, job, etc).

My contention is that, because people who are "ideally suited" for boxing, particularly in the heavyweight division, are going into other sports, particularly basketball or football, some to the pros, others just getting that college scholarship, getting a degree, and getting the house and the 2.5 kids.

Back in our parents' time, there existed high school boxing teams, and boxing was much more a part of American culture as a whole. All the "dain bramage" potential made this part of the past, sending kids into soccer and such.

The gist of the article, (as I read it, anyways) is that Lance "Crowsqueeze" Armstrong re-programmed himself, starting at a very young age, to create the perfect biking machine. Maybe boxers can do the same thing, but only if they have the mental toughness and determination to do so. Since most boxers we see nowadays are semi-rehabbed thugs, I don't think that's going to happen.
