Chris Byrd, Please Shut Up!
Chris Byrd should stop complaining about not making "big bucks". He is a boring fighter, even by the standards of Johnny Ruiz, and he is harder to market than speedos in Saskatchewan. His fight with DaVarryl Williamson was boring beyond description. It's no wonder that this championship fight was on the undercard of the Toney v Guinn fight.
Guinn fought an incredibly stupid fight, and deserved a much worse whipping than poor ole James Toney is capable of delivering. Guinn stayed close, playing to Toney's strength, as opposed to fighting from distance, as he should have done. This fight was not as boring as the Byrd fight, but it wasn't worth paying to see (thankfully, it was free on Showtime).
Toney is charismatic, and is generating a lot of undeserved excitement, particularly after his beating of Ruiz. If you put Toney in the ring with a good heavyweight, you'll see a 37-year-old fat man get beaten. I'm not sure who the next opponent will be, but I'm not excited.
